International Day of Peace #1

 “Say it with Flowers”

Last week we commemorated the International Day of Peace. This year, 2013, the International Day of Peace was on a Saturday, September 21st. Special activities and celebrations took place all across the world over the Peace Day Weekend, including festivals, concerts, and much more. As one of the community in Jogjakarta, English Home also took a part on celebrating the International Day of Peace. In collaboration with Jogja English, we spread “Peace Message” through flowers.

At 8.00 a.m the members of English Home and Jogja English Community gathered in Jogja English office. Unfortunately there were only few members who have come: Rini, Indah, Inoy, Zean, Vita, and Devi. While waiting for the other members, we took some pictures.

In Jogja English office, we also wrote something about peace on sticky notes and hang them on “a Peace of Tree”.

Fifteen minutes later, finally all of the members have come. Then we did the coordination with Rini and Indah as the coordinators of Peace Day event.

After having briefing, we went to Solo street by motorcycle and stopped in a parking lot near Janti’s flyover. Before spreading the flowers we did chant to boost our spirit.

yeay, yeay, yeay !!

yeay, yeay, yeay !!

Ready to give the flowers :D

We were separated into two groups, the first group was in the north of the sidewalk and the second group was in the south of the street.

We were so enthusiastic on giving the flowers and maps to the people on the street.  We said “Happy Peace Day, a flower for you” with a big warm smile.

Tata was the most active member in this event.

We were spreading the flowers for one hour and we closed our event by singing “Heal the World Song” in the sidewalk while waving our hand to the people on the street.

Hopefully this simple action would leave a deep impression on the people’s hearts and give contribution to the World Peace.  Happy Peace Day everyone! Do your own act on celebrating “World Peace Day”. Peace from us to you.
